Clumping Bamboo South Africa

ALPHONSE KARR (BAMBUSA MULTIPLEX)

Alphonse Karr is a small yellow bambusa multiplex bamboo perfect as an ornamental feature or a privacy screen in garden beds or pots and troughs. It has beautiful green and gold striped culms with attractive bushy green foliage. Alphonse Karr will naturally grow between 3 – 4mtrs in height and can be easily trimmed down in height if need be.

Probably the best looking of the hedging bamboo, Alphonse Karr always attracts attention. The pinkish shoots become green-striped, yellow culms. The colour deepens with age. This type of bamboo is shorter and more upright than the common hedging bamboo, and it always looks good, even during a South African winter.

Alphonse Karr Hedge Bamboo

Alphonse Karr hedge bamboo is renowned for its thin, brightly colored culms and thick, bushy foliage. This is one of the reasons that this Multiplex variety makes a great choice is for creating a thick, impenetrable hedge or screen.

When planted on 8 foot centers, these medium-sized clumping bamboos can form a thick wall of foliage within just 3 to 5 years. Want a little less screening? Simply plant them further apart. Clumping bamboo is the number one choice for creating an environmentally safe privacy screen or hedge.

Use bamboo as a screen to create privacy in your landscape or as a living fence to divide space. Alphonse Karr makes for a great windbreak, and its tolerance of coastal conditions will protect your garden and make dining al fresco that much more enjoyable in the summer.
